This article is concerned with our recent achievement in developingsynthetic chromogenic receptors for optical activeamines and amino acid derivatives. Pre-organized(S)-1,1'-bi-2-naphthyl- and bis(indophenol)-derived calix[4]crown1ashows naked-eye detectable chiral recognition between thoseenantiomers. The spectroscopic properties are reported, aswell as an estimation of the enantioselectivity using an HPLC equipped witha chiral packing column.
