Akira HARATA − Editorial Board Member

Akira HARATA, Professor of Analytical and Physical Chemistry in Interdisciplinary Graduate School of Engineering Sciences, Kyushu University, was born in 1962 in Nagano prefecture. He received Bachelor (1985), Master (1987), and Doctor (1990) degrees of Engineering from the University of Tokyo. After being a postdoctoral fellow of the Japan Society of Promotion of Science for 4 months, he became a research associate in the department of Applied Chemistry, University of Tokyo (1990-1997), and was subsequently promoted to Associate Professor and Professor (2005) at Kyushu University. His current research interests are ultrasensitive detection of non-fluorescent molecules in liquid solution and in a biological cell as well as the structure and dynamics of molecules adsorbed at a water surface, being based on applied laser and synchrotron spectroscopy. He enjoys reading novels, playing the game of go, and eating soba.
